PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
Preparing properly for surgery helps reduce complications and supports a smooth recovery. Please review the information below carefully and download the detailed instructions provided for your specific procedure.
SHOWER INSTRUCTIONS
A clean surgical site reduces the risk of infection.
You will be asked to shower using a special antibacterial soap prior to surgery. Follow the timing and instructions carefully to ensure your skin is properly prepared.
If you are unable to obtain the antibacterial soap at your local pharmacy, notify one of our staff members who will provide you with a bottle
NPO GUIDELINES (NOTHING BY MOUTH)
To keep you safe under anesthesia, your stomach must be empty before surgery.
Do not eat or drink anything after the time provided by our team. This includes food, water, gum, mints, and chewing tobacco unless specifically instructed otherwise.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in your surgery being delayed or canceled for your safety.

Ensure you drink plenty of fluids. This will help with IV placement, medication clearance after surgery, and nausea.
Consume a light dinner the night before your surgery to reduce your risk for stomach upset.

To ensure your safety during anesthesia, your stomach must be empty before surgery.
No solid food or full liquids after midnight the night before surgery.
Full liquids include:
Dairy products
Juices containing pulp
Semi-liquids such as hot cereal

Clear liquids are allowed up to 2 hours before your scheduled surgery time.
Clear liquids include:
Water
Black coffee (no cream)
Clear tea
Sports drinks
Clear apple juice.
Do not consume gum, mints, or chewing tobacco.
MEDICATION GUIDELINES
Some medications should be continued, while others must be stopped prior to surgery.
If you are unsure about a medication, please call our office.
You will receive individualized instructions regarding blood thinners, diabetes medications, weight loss medications, and supplements. Do not stop any prescribed medication unless you are instructed to do so.
Our recommendations for what meds to stop taking are generally as follows:
1 Week Before Surgery
GLP-1 Drugs
Phentermine / Amphetamines
Suboxone
Anti-Inflammatories
Supplements
Anticoagulants
72 Hours Before Surgery
Naltrexone
Morning of Surgery
Insulin
Long-Acting Insulin (half dose)
Oral Hypoglycemics
Diuretics
ACE Inhibitors
WHAT TO BRING ON THE DAY OF SURGERY
To ensure a smooth check-in process, please bring:
A valid photo ID
Insurance card
A list of current medications
Any required medical equipment (if instructed)
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
Your responsible adult driver (if applicable)
Leave valuables at home, including jewelry.
