Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I bring my family with me during pre-op?

For the safety and privacy of all our patients, we do not allow visitors in the pre-op area. However, we have a comfortable and spacious lobby where your family is welcome to wait during your procedure. Once surgery is complete and you are ready for visitors, your loved ones will be able to join you.

Will my family/friend get updates during the surgery process?

Yes, you will receive text updates throughout the surgical process. When you check in, our front desk coordinator will ask for your driver’s name and phone number. Text notifications will be sent from the beginning of pre-op through to post-op.

We will also provide an estimated time of surgery completion. If your driver plans to leave the facility, we ask that they return promptly once they receive the “closing” text notification.

Can I eat or drink before my surgery?

You may drink clear liquids up to two hours prior to your scheduled start time. Non-clear liquids and foods may not be consumed after midnight before your surgery day.

What is a non-clear liquid?

A non-clear liquid is any liquid that contains dairy, pulp, or fat. Liquids with fat typically have a thicker or creamier consistency.

What time should I arrive for my surgery?

Your arrival time will be provided by our pre-admission nurse during your pre-operative call. Please arrive promptly to allow enough time for check-in, preparation, and anesthesia evaluation. Generally we ask patients to arrive 1.5-2 hours before their scheduled start time.

What should I bring with me on the day of surgery?

Please bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card (if applicable), and a form of payment if you have a copay. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and leave all jewelry and valuables at home.

Can I drive myself home after surgery?

No. You must have a responsible adult drive you home and stay with you for at least 24 hours following anesthesia or sedation. Uber, Lyft, or taxi drivers cannot serve as your responsible adult.

Will I meet my anesthesia provider before surgery?

Yes. Your anesthesia provider will meet with you before surgery to review your health history, discuss anesthesia options, and answer any questions you may have.

How long will I stay after my procedure?

Recovery time varies depending on the type of surgery and anesthesia used. Most patients stay between one and three hours after surgery before being discharged home.

What if I start to feel sick before my surgery?

Please call our office as soon as possible. Your safety is our priority, and your surgeon or anesthesia provider may decide to reschedule your procedure if you are ill.

Can I take my regular medications before surgery?

During your pre-admission call, our nurse will review your current medications and provide specific instructions on which medications to continue or stop before surgery.

What should I wear or avoid wearing on my surgery day?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to change out of. Avoid makeup, lotion, perfume, nail polish, and jewelry, as these can interfere with monitoring and surgical safety.

Will I receive instructions for recovery at home?

Yes. Before you leave, your nurse will review detailed discharge instructions with you and your escort, including pain management, wound care, and follow-up appointments.

What if I have questions after I get home?

If you have concerns once you are home, you may call our nurse line during business hours. For urgent issues after hours, please contact your surgeon directly or go to the nearest emergency department.
